Emmanuel Williams scored his third touchdown on a 4-yard run in overtime and Yanni Davis converted the extra-point kick in a come-from-behind, 39-38 overtime victory, as Suitland of Prince George's County captured the Class 4A state football title over Sherwood of Montgomery County last night at M&T Bank Stadium.

On Sherwood's overtime series, Dominique Budd scored his third touchdown of the game on a 10-yard run. Then the Warriors (11-3) chose to go for the win with a two-point conversion attempt, but Budd's run failed, giving the Rams the title.

Suitland (13-1) trailed 21-0 at 10:56 of the second quarter. The title was the second for the Rams, who defeated Damascus, 14-7, for the crown in 2004.

Sherwood seemed on its way to a blowout after leading 14-0 at 1:39 of the first quarter and 21-0 early in the second. But the Rams, who generated 259 rushing yards, pulled within 21-19 at 11:56 of the fourth quarter.

Sherwood then pulled away to a 32-19 lead with 6:58 to play after TayShon Powell's fumble recovery set up Akeem Roberts' 27-yard field goal and Budd scored from 7 yards. But Suitland tied the game at 32 on Williams' 1-yard run, and - with four seconds left in regulation - Carlos Fields' 7-yard touchdown run on fourth down on a busted pass play.

"At halftime, my teammates kept telling me, `Take a chance, we're down. Take a chance,' " said Fields, a junior. "I was looking for Yanni, but I couldn't find him, so I took that chance, it worked out, and now we're state champs."
