The Weather Page

Elaine Pardoe writes from Columbia: "Does the low temperature prediction for a given day refer to the night/early morning that has just passed, or the one to come?" It's slippery. Our forecast lows are "overnight" lows, typically reached just before dawn the following day. Looking back, meteorologists report extremes reached between midnights. This page goes to bed before midnight, so our Almanac must use the weather service's "preliminary" midnight-to-4 p.m. readings. It's a newspaper thing.
