Navy women defeat UMBC, 74-56

The Navy women's basketball team held UMBC without a field goal for the final 7:10 of play and beat the host Retrievers last night, 74-56.

Navy finished the game on a 12-2 run.

The Mids (3-6), led by Margaret Knap with 22 points with a game-high four three-pointers, shot 56.5 from the field in the first half. Navy had a one-point advantage at the break.

Navy dominated nearly every part of the game, out-rebounding the Retrievers 43-28. Also, the Mids' subs out-scored UMBC's bench 41-9.

Brittanie Hughes was a bright spot for the Retrievers (3-5), scoring a game-high 23 points with a team-high three assists.

Hughes also gave UMBC its last lead of the game on a three-pointer 13 seconds into the second half. UMBC could not get any closer than four points after Navy regained an edge.

College of Notre Dame 75, Eastern 42 -- Cassie Hall (Perry Hall) grabbed 11 of the Gators' 64 rebounds, and teammate Gloria Broady (St. Frances) scored a team-high 13 points against the visiting Eagles (1-6).
