Settle-Raskin joins county agency

Alice D. Settle-Raskin has joined the Howard County Economic Development Authority as its communications manager. She is to be responsible for the advertising, promotions and marketing activities of the authority and its Center for business and Technology Development.

Settle-Raskin comes from the Housing Assistance Council, a national rural housing nonprofit in Washington, D.C., where she was responsible for media and communications activities.

A resident of western Howard County, Settle-Raskin was trade-show coordinator for the $12 million National Semiconductor Metrology Program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg for 20 years.

River Hill's Chen Rensselaer Medalist

Haijing "Henry" Chen, a student at River Hill High School, has been named a Rensselaer Medalist for his achievements in mathematics and science.

The medals are awarded to one student at each secondary school in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia; more than 3,600 secondary schools participated. Winners are offered a $60,000 four-year scholarship if they attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Chen, who has not chosen a college, plans to major in engineering in the fall.

Marc Lee to lead Howard Bank branch

Marc C. Lee has been named manager of the Maple Lawn branch office of Howard Bank, a locally owned and managed community bank.

He served as assistant branch manager of the bank's Hickory Ridge branch, and was previously an assistant branch manager with Susquehanna bank.

The Bowie resident received his undergraduate degree from Temple University and his MBA from the University of Baltimore.
