When Navy got the word yesterday it would face 23rd-ranked Boston College in the Meineke Car Care Bowl on Dec. 30 in Charlotte, N.C., its coach, players and athletic director saluted a quality opponent that has one of the top offenses in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
They also tried to downplay their disappointment, since the Midshipmen did not get the game they craved. They will not enjoy a rematch with Maryland, which edged Navy, 23-20, in the 2005 season opener at M&T Bank Stadium, in a game that marked the first meeting between the schools in 40 years.
