5 Things I Have To Have Now

WHEN JOAN DEVELIN COLEY CAME to McDaniel, then known as Western Maryland College, she planned to stay just three years. That was more than 30 years ago. "I fell in love with the place," she says. Coley, 62, is a woman comfortable with love. She loves her husband, certainly. She loves being a grandmother. She loves education and books. She loves dessert and beautiful jewelry (not necessarily in that order).

Trip to Hungary "To tour the country and to visit McDaniel's campus in Budapest. We've had a program there for a dozen years. It is a fascinating city. And it's just gorgeous."

Dinner at Ixia "...with my husband, followed by the latest production at Center Stage. For me, an ideal evening would be good food, being with someone you love and exciting theater."

The Woman at the Washington Zoo: Writings on Politics, Family and Fate By Marjorie Williams "For my [monthly] book group. I need a long, uninterrupted afternoon to read it. I can wish for a book, but I also wish I had the time to read it."

Jewelry "I like Marley's jewelers in Pikesville. It's a great jewelry store and they have creative jewelry. It could be just about anything. A necklace or a pin."

Children's books from Locust Bookstore "They have a nice children's section. I take my [4-year-old] granddaughter, Johanna. She is the joy of my life."
