A Prince George's County resident, Tiesha Higgins worked as a full-time journalist for three years at the Gazette newspapers, covering politics, crime and business. Her coverage won second place for investigative reporting in the 2005 Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association Editorial Contest. This year, she took a hiatus from the newsroom to start an event-planning company. Her love of writing brought her to UniSun. She writes about fashionable holiday clothes and a Baltimore blues musician.


Emeri B. O'Brien is a native of Lake Charles, La. She graduated from Grambling State University in 1999 and is a graduate student at the University of Maryland, College Park. O'Brien works on The Sun's copy desk and also writes for UniSun. Her familiarity with Louisiana made her the perfect reporter to write our cover story about a family that relocated to Baltimore from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.


Philana Patterson is a freelance writer based in New York. She also is the interactive media editor at black Patterson is an avid reader and has been a book-club member for more than 10 years. She also writes fiction in her spare time. She has worked for news organizations in New York, South Carolina and Virginia. In this edition of UniSun, she writes about self-publishing.


Lori Watkins is a Baltimore beauty sales consultant and business owner. She writes about her memories of her father, a former boxer who is in the Maryland Boxing Hall of Fame.
