Rose Mattus, 90, who with her late husband, Reuben, launched Haagen-Dazs ice cream and peddled the super-premium treat in grocery stores, died Tuesday. The company was formed around 1960, having morphed from her husband's family's decades-old business in New York's Bronx.

Mr. Mattus concocted the nonsensical name, which sounds Scandinavian but means nothing in any language.
