Arundel executive swearing-in is set for Monday

December 01, 2006|By Phillip McGowan | Phillip McGowan,Sun Reporter

Del. John R. Leopold will be sworn in as Anne Arundel County executive Monday in Annapolis - not a day earlier in Brooklyn Park, as the Republican had intended.

Leopold will be sworn in at 10 a.m. at the Arundel Center in Annapolis. The County Council's seven members will take the oath of office there at 3 p.m.

Leopold will still hold a ceremony at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Chesapeake Arts Center in Brooklyn Park to meet with county residents. He had planned to be inaugurated there to symbolize being the first resident from northern Anne Arundel to be elected county executive, but the county charter says that Leopold cannot be sworn in before Monday.
