December rolls into town tonight with promises of colder weather and the season's first snowfall. Probably. Every date in December has seen snow in the 122 years we've kept watch in Baltimore. The average snow total for Decembers at BWI (from 1971 to 2000) is seven inches. We've had more snow than that seven times in the last 40 Decembers, less in 22. The snowiest was in 1966, when 20.4 inches fell. But December has fizzled 11 times since 1966, with just a trace of snow, or none.
