November 27, 2006|By Richard Irwin , Sun Reporter

Maryland Transportation Authority Police are investigating the death of a tractor-trailer driver whose rig hauling baked goods crashed into a stand of trees alongside the ramp from southbound Interstate 95 to Eastern Avenue in Baltimore early yesterday.

About 7 a.m., the driver, James J. Ciarlante, 43, of Hatboro, Pa., entered the ramp and lost control of the rig, said Cpl. Jonathan Green, a police spokesman.

Green said it took city firefighters 15 minutes to free the driver from the damaged cab. He was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and an autopsy was planned, Green said.
