A man was shot and wounded early yesterday during a fight outside of a Veterans of Foreign Wars hall early yesterday, and a woman who tried to intervene in the dispute also was injured, the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported.

The violence occurred about 2 a.m., shortly after the hall in the 200 block of Spesutia Road had closed, according to sheriff's department spokesman Bob Thomas.

Rondale Guy, 21, of Havre de Grace was shot in the side of the head and apparently cut on the stomach with an unknown weapon in the fight with at least two other men, Thomas said.

A woman who witnessed the altercation tried to intervene and was struck in the face and cut on her left leg above the knee, Thomas said, adding it was not known who assaulted the woman.

He said the woman went home and that her parents drove her to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. She was treated and released, Thomas said.

Guy was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries that apparently also proved minor. He also was treated and released, a Shock Trauma spokeswoman said.

Anyone knowing the gunman's identity is urged to call the county sheriff's office at 410-836-5429.
