HCC department gets excellence honor

The Department of Business and Industry Training at Harford Community College has been honored for excellence in the Best Business and Industry category by the Learning Resources Network, an international association dedicated to lifelong learning.

The winning entry will be included in a showcase of programs at the LERN convention in Baltimore from Thursday through Saturday.

Placement test Dec. 9 at John Carroll

John Carroll School will be one of the sites where the Catholic High School Placement Test is administered.

The test will be given Dec. 9 at 703 E. Churchville Road, Bel Air. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., and the test begins promptly at 9 a.m. The test fee is $30.

No advance registration is required. No late admittance will be allowed.

HCC to celebrate 50th anniversary

Harford Community College will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a black tie gala from 7 p.m. to midnight Jan. 27 at the Maryland Golf and Country Club.

The event will include dinner and dancing to the sounds of the Klassix.

Those buying tickets will be entered in a drawing for a new car from one of the 13 members of the Bel Air New Car Dealers Association. Entrants must be 21 or older to win.

Tickets are $250, with proceeds benefiting the Harford Community College Foundation scholarship fund.

Tickets bought by Dec. 15 will also be entered in a $500 drawing.

Military veterans eligible for test refund

A recently enacted law improving veterans' educational benefits allows military veterans to receive full reimbursement for all College-Level Examination Program testing fees.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will reimburse those eligible for the $60 CLEP examination fee and for the test center administration fee.

The College-Level Examination Program provides students of any age with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement through examinations in undergraduate courses.

Active-duty members of the military have been able get reimbursement for CLEP exams since 1974. The benefit has been extended to veterans.

Harford Community College accepts 26 CLEP exams for credit, and HCC is a CLEP testing center for students studying at other colleges.
