Sherwood quarterback Deontay Twyman put on a dazzling performance last night in the Class 4A North regional final against No. 10 Perry Hall, throwing for two touchdowns and running for two other scores in the visiting Warriors' 37-20 victory.

Twyman eluded the aggressive Perry Hall pass rush for most of the game, often escaping two or three players to complete a pass or run for crucial first downs. The senior completed eight of 12 passes for 162 yards and ran for 71 yards on nine carries.

"I did not want this to be my last game," Twyman said. "Overall, our line did a great job blocking."

An explosive first quarter that ended 14-14 began the game.

The Warriors opened the scoring on a 33-yard pass from Twyman to Joey Gambo.

Perry Hall (10-2) answered on its ensuing drive when Tarrin Lilly found space behind the right side of the offensive line and ran 60 yards to the 4. Jason Mattison found Dave Stinebaugh on a 4-yard pass to tie the score.

Twyman gave Sherwood (10-2) the lead again when his 16-yard touchdown run capped a four-play, 66-yard drive. But Perry Hall tied the score again after John Ambrose ran back the Warriors' kickoff 100 yards.

Midway through the third quarter, Twyman threw his second touchdown pass, a 37-yarder to Kyle Lascolette to increase the Warriors' lead to 23-14.

Sherwood's defense buckled down and did not allow a first down in the third quarter.

Sherwood running back Dominique Budd's 4-yard score early in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach.

"We looked at five or six films of Perry Hall and I didn't think they were as good defensively as tonight," Sherwood coach Al Thomas said. "Their defense was much stronger than I expected."

The game was a rematch of last year's regional final that was also won by Sherwood, 42-0.

"We represented our school and our county very well tonight," Perry Hall coach Nick Arminio said. "The difference was Twyman. Every time we had him, he ... made a play."
