Tree lighting ceremony is Tuesday night in Towson

Baltimore County's Christmas tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday in Towson.

The ceremony, at 6 p.m. at York Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, in front of Towson Commons, will feature holiday music, free cookies and hot chocolate, and an appearance by Santa.

County Executive James T. Smith Jr. is to preside over the lighting of the 25-foot-tall tree at 6:30 p.m.

Parking at meters and in public garages in Towson will be free after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Pennsylvania Avenue from York Road to the Towson Commons parking garage will be closed from about 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday. All of Pennsylvania Avenue from York Road to Washington Avenue, will be closed from 5:40 p.m. to 8 p.m. that day.
