The Kickoff

November 23, 2006|By GLENN GRAHAM

PLAY OF THE WEEK

Terrell Owens, Dallas vs. Tampa Bay -- The Cowboys will be primed for today's home game against Tampa Bay. Expect a special performance from Owens, who has been hard to stop since the insertion of Tony Romo at quarterback.

POSITION ANALYSIS

QUARTERBACK

STARTING NOD -- Carson Palmer, Cincinnati at Cleveland. Palmer has put together impressive back-to-back games - totaling 715 yards and six touchdowns to just one interception - and has rediscovered his connection with standout wide receiver Chad Johnson.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- Jake Delhomme, Carolina at Washington; Romo, Dallas vs. Tampa Bay; Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle vs. Green Bay.

TAKE A SEAT -- Rex Grossman, Chicago at New England; David Carr, Houston at New York Jets; J.P. Losman, Buffalo vs. Jacksonville.

RUNNING BACK

STARTING NOD -- Frank Gore, San Francisco at St. Louis. With 371 yards on 46 carries in the past two games, Gore is averaging 8.1 yards per carry. Another stellar performance should take place at St. Louis against a Rams defense that ranks 31st against the run.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- Joseph Addai, Indianapolis vs. Philadelphia; Tiki Barber, New York Giants at Tennessee; Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia at Indianapolis.

TAKE A SEAT -- Anthony Thomas, Buffalo vs. Jacksonville; Edgerrin James, Arizona at Minnesota; Corey Dillon, New England vs. Chicago.

WIDE RECEIVER

STARTING NOD -- Darrell Jackson, Seattle vs. Green Bay. Hasselbeck is expected to return and will look to Jackson, who has 50 catches for 785 yards and eight touchdowns this season.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- Joe Horn, New Orleans at Atlanta; Chad Johnson, Cincinnati at Cleveland; Laveranues Coles, New York Jets vs. Houston.

TAKE A SEAT -- Joey Galloway, Tampa Bay at Dallas; Muhsin Muhammad, Chicago at New England; Donte' Stallworth, Philadelphia at Indianapolis.

TIGHT END

STARTING NOD -- Jeremy Shockey, New York Giants at Tennessee. With Eli Manning struggling to find his wide receivers, Shockey has been the Giants' only constant in the passing game.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- L.J. Smith, Philadelphia at Indianapolis; Todd Heap, Ravens vs. Pittsburgh; Kellen Winslow Jr., Cleveland vs. Cincinnati.

TAKE A SEAT -- Desmond Clark, Chicago at New England; Heath Miller, Pittsburgh at Ravens; Owen Daniels, Houston at New York Jets.

KICKER

STARTING NOD -- Jason Elam, Denver at Kansas City. Elam has kicked at least one field goal in every game and is 15-for-17 this season.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

STARTING NOD -- Dallas vs. Tampa Bay. Coming off their big win against the Colts, the Cowboys should have no trouble getting up for today's home game against overmatched Tampa Bay, which ranks near the bottom of the league in offense.

Last week's tab
