The Weather Page

November 21, 2006|By FRANK ROYLANCE | FRANK ROYLANCE,Sun Reporter -- Weather Blogger

Ed Phipps' question on yesterday's Weather Page - asking about the widest departures from the daily average high and low temperatures - led me to e-mail another question to busy forecasters at the National Weather Service in Sterling, Va. What single day saw the biggest swing between high and low temperatures at BWI? Sterling's Steve Listemaa ran the search and found it was April 1, 1978. That day's high reached 88 degrees (still a record). The low was just 40, for a spread of 48 degrees. No fooling.
