Ed Phipps writes from Dundalk: "Can you tell me the greatest difference between the recorded temperature and that day's average (high and low) temperature?" A tough one, but I scanned BWI extremes and did some mental math. Here's my best answer: Jan. 14, 1932, (and Jan. 26, 1950) each saw a 38-degree gap between a 79-degree high and 41-degree average high. On the low end: a 32-degree gap between a low of minus-7 and the average low of 25, on Feb. 9, 1934, and Feb. 10, 1899.
