DOYLESTOWN, Pa. -- The Salisbury football team rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Delaware Valley, 15-9, yesterday to win the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Atlantic Bowl before 1,500 at James Work Memorial Stadium.

The winning drive began late in the third quarter and ended 11 plays later, as Anthony Johnson ran in from 5 yards to give Salisbury its first lead of the game, 13-9, with 10:28 left. The drive went 97 yards and was aided by three Delaware Valley penalties.

Salisbury (6-5) went for two points and was stuffed, but a penalty on Delaware Valley (8-3) gave the Sea Gulls another shot. Valdase Morris ran in to put the Gulls up by six.

Salisbury won its second straight ECAC bowl championship game and ended its fifth straight winning season.

In the final 10 minutes, Delaware Valley punted once and turned the ball over on downs with 2:41 left. Salisbury linebacker Billy Leinemann (six tackles), the game's Most Valuable Player, tackled quarterback Mike Isgro on third-and-two near midfield. On fourth-and-four, Isgro threw behind his receiver to give the ball back to Salisbury, which ran out the clock.

Salisbury quarterback Ronnie Curley ran for a game-high 131 yards on 30 carries and threw for 60 yards.

Delaware Valley scored first, moving 85 yards on 11 plays, capped by Jake Sheffield's 1-yard run. Just before halftime, Curley threw for 50 yards in a seven-play, 67-yard drive that ended with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Chris Newton with 57 seconds left for a 7-7 tie.

The touchdown was the first allowed in four games by Delaware Valley, which entered the game with three straight shutouts.
