Forty Crowns wins

Ah Day fades

November 19, 2006|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

Forty Crowns, under jockey Anna "Rosie" Napravnik, dispensed with prohibitive favorite Ah Day before the far turn and galloped to an easy victory in the $75,000 Northern Dancer Stakes yesterday at Laurel Park.

Ah Day was eased to the finish line and finished last in the five-horse field. In nine previous added-money tries at Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course this year, Ah Day had five victories and three runner-up finishes.

Forty Crowns covered the nine-furlong distance in 1 minute, 51.89 seconds, won by 9 1/2 lengths and paid $9.40, $8.60 and $14.60. Rhythmn Master paid $12.80 and $26.20, and Belongs To Joe returned $42.80 to show.
