Grain marketing focus of discussion

The Maryland Cooperative Extension will hold a Maryland Grain Marketing Workshop on "The Post-Harvest Marketing Challenge" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 15 at Friendly Farms in Upperco.

Producers will learn to evaluate the post-harvest market and size up grain storage opportunities.

The cost is $10. Registration is required by Dec. 10.

Holiday brochure lists tree farms

The Department of Economic Development has published its annual Christmas tree brochure, Christmas Trees & Holiday Greens in Carroll County, Maryland 2006.

The brochure is available through the Office of Tourism, public libraries, the department in the County Office Building, and online at under promotional materials.

The brochure lists 11 Christmas tree farms in Carroll County with cut-your-own trees and fresh-cut greens. Contact information, dates and times of operations, tree types, sizes, directions and other available products are listed.

U.S. Farm Service unveils Web site

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has introduced a revamped Farm Service Agency customer-focused, Web site at

The redesigned Web site offers improved delivery of information and services and meets USDA's eGovernment strategic goals.

The Web site provides information about Farm Service Agency programs and services in both English and Spanish. A more effective search-tool engine for finding specific information has been added.

Other new features include "Hot Links" and "I Want To" sections that provide users quick links to popular agency functions. "Ask FSA" is an online, knowledge-based program designed to answer general questions about the agency's programs and services.
