Hopkins advances to sectional final

The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team earned its first shutout in NCAA Division III tournament play since 1994 with a 3-0 win over Western New England yesterday in the sectional semifinals at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. With the win, Hopkins (19-1-2) will face Messiah in the sectional final today at 1 p.m. The winner will advance to the final four next weekend.

Play was fairly even through the first half, with both goalies making saves to keep things even. The game opened up in the second half when freshman Max Venker scored in the 57th minute. It was his ninth goal of the season and fourth in the past three games.
