Magic at the Mill

The lowdown -- Take a stroll through Historic Savage Mill this weekend for the center's annual Holiday Magic at the Mill. Visitors can enjoy free wine and beer tastings, magic shows, family activities, holiday carolers, live jazz and more. The event also features the "Parade of Trees" fundraiser, in which visitors can vote for their favorite decorative tree by making a donation to the sponsoring organization's charity. Trees will remain on display, with donations being accepted through December.

Craft festival

The lowdown -- Starting today, the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival brings more than 500 artists and crafts designers to Montgomery County Fairgrounds. The festival includes live music, craft demonstrations, children's entertainment and artist workshops.

If you go -- The festival is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today and tomorrow, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7 for four days and free for those younger than 12. Parking is free. The fairgrounds are at 16 Chestnut St. in Gaithersburg. For more information, go to sugar

Holidays by the sea

The lowdown -- Ocean City's Winterfest of Lights comes to life today when a group of children help the mayor throw the switch to light up the seasonal village at North Side Park. Santa may make a surprise appearance tonight as well. For tonight only, the Winterfest Express Train, which tours the roughly one-mile trail of lights, will be free. There will also be a large heated tent, hot chocolate and a gift shop.

If you go -- The festival starts with an opening ceremony at 5:30 p.m. today and continues through Jan. 1 at North Side Park, at 127th Street and the Bay.
