Stacey Zier, well known in Annapolis as a cooking instructor, has opened Tastings Gourmet to introduce the artisanal meats, cheeses and sweets she encountered while learning her craft in Europe and the Mediterranean.

"I always loved the old-world-style market I found when I traveled in Europe, and I wanted to bring that home. It is another expression of my love for food," said Zier, who has put her Great Dish Cooking Studio classes on hold until her new market gets started.

The charming shop offers world-class cheeses imported from producers who "share a passion for their animals and their province," she said. Zier offers customers more than a taste - she gives lessons in selecting and pairing cheese.

The choice meats come from Mike Smollon and My Butcher and More in Crofton and the French breads from Savage Mill. The chocolates are from Michel Cluizel of Paris.

For those with a smaller appetite, Tastings Gourmet has a take-out menu of sandwiches, salads and - yes - cheese plates - for lunch.
