Prince George's police shoot two men

November 11, 2006|By Phillip McGowan

Two men in a parked car were shot and wounded by Prince George's County police last night after the driver took off and pinned one of three officers who approached the vehicle against another car, authorities said.

About 6 p.m., three police officers patrolling the 3700 block of Old Silver Road in Suitland noticed the men in the car acting "suspiciously," said Cpl. Stephen Pacheo, a Prince George's police spokesman.

When the driver took off and pinned one of the officers against another car, all three officers opened fire, Pacheo said.

The two men suffered unspecified injuries and were taken to local hospitals, where one was in critical condition, Pacheo said.

The officer who was struck was also hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries to his legs, Pacheo said.

An unspecified amount of drugs was recovered from the car, Pacheco said.

Pacheco said an investigation was pending. He said further details about the officers, the two men who were shot and the vehicle were unavailable last night.
