The Christian boy-band spoof is a tuneful treat

The Basilica of the Assumption has reopened, and the Altar Boyz are in town. Actually, these particular altar boys are hanging out a few blocks away, at the Hippodrome Theatre, where the touring version of the off-Broadway hit is saving souls - or at least thoroughly entertaining them - through Sunday.

Produced by Ken Davenport, who brought us The Awesome 80s Prom last season, Altar Boyz is also a spoof, but far slicker, more clever and self-contained - and it involves only the slightest smidgen of audience participation beyond the applause, foot-tapping and whoops that it deservedly elicits.

Altar Boyz continues through Sunday at the Hippodrome, 12 N. Eutaw St. $22-$52. 410-547-SEAT or BroadwayAcrossAmerica.com
