MADD chapter plans bingo night

The Howard County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving will hold basket bingo at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lodge, 2832 Nine Mile Circle, Catonsville.

Prizes are Longaberger baskets filled with useful items. Raffles, door prizes and refreshments are planned. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets -- $15 in advance, $18 at the door -- include 20 games.

Library branches to close Friday

All branches of the Howard County Library will be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day. Regular service will resume Saturday.

Grassroots moving during construction

Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center will relocate its program and services while its new facility is built. Construction, to begin shortly, is expected to be completed in a year.

The shelter programs will move to a two-story cottage at the site of Taylor Manor in Ellicott City, where Sheppard Pratt Hospital operates. Grassroots' crisis intervention programs will operate from a county-owned house on Vollmerhausen Road. The move is planned for the middle of this month.

Master gardener training planned

Registration is open for the 2007 master gardener training, sponsored by the Maryland Cooperative Extension, Howard County office.

New and experienced gardeners are invited to register. Those with an interest in writing, graphics and computers, as well as gardening, are encouraged to apply. The deadline is Nov. 30.

The training will cover plant, insect and disease problems and other topics related to sustainable and environmental impacts of gardening practices. The cost is $150.
