Perry Hall coach Bob Kucharski said striker Christa DeBole has been his Gators' playmaker all year. Last night at C. Milton Wright, he couldn't have been more right.

DeBole set up the first goal on a great run and scored the last as visiting and unranked Perry Hall (12-4) upset the host Mustangs, 3-0, to win the Class 4A North regional championship.

The Gators advance to this weekend's Class 4A state semifinals at a site and time to be determined.

Seventh-ranked and defending state champion C.M. Wright finishes the season with an 11-3-2 record.

"That first goal was the biggest play in the game," Kucharski said. "Sometimes it takes two or three players to defend her, and that leaves the centers open. She found the open center."

With 16:43 gone in the game, DeBole took a pass just over midfield, dribbled between two defenders and used her speed to race down the sideline. Before reaching the corner, she fired a perfect cross that was fielded by Terry Buontempo, who beat Mustangs goalie Allison Kuchar high on her right side for a 1-0 lead.

The lead held up deep into the second half, when the Mustangs began to push forward to get the equalizer. With 24:46 left, an arcing shot by the Gators' Eliza Burke found the head of teammate Jennifer Schmitt, who flicked it past Kuchar to extend the lead to 2-0.

DeBole completed the scoring when her shot from the far right bounced off Kuchar with 5:08 remaining.

"We've been underestimated as a team all year," said DeBole, whose Gators have won 10 of their past 11 games. "We have 11 seniors on this team, and we believe no one can beat us if we play our game and play as a team."

C.M. Wright's Kelly Scheler credited DeBole and her timing for the victory.

"She beat us a couple of times down the line, and that's where we broke down," Scheler said. "We aren't used to playing from behind, and that first goal got us really discouraged."

The Gators celebrated the victory, but they did so in a subdued fashion.

"This team is really close," said Buontempo of Perry Hall. "We're excited about this win, but we want to win states. With all the seniors, it's our last chance."

Towson 2, Dundalk 0 -- Sarah Clemmens came out of the halftime to ignite the Generals to a win over the visiting Owls in the Class 3A North regional final. Clemmens scored the first goal 10 minutes into the second half and then passed to Maria Wolfe, who added an insurance goal with three minutes remaining. Towson will face the winner of the 3A East regional final, between River Hill and Mount Hebron, on Saturday.
