One dead, one hurt in shooting

One man was killed and another was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a shooting in Crofton yesterday afternoon, Anne Arundel County police said. Officers responded to a 12:17 p.m. call reporting the shooting in the 1700 block of Leisure Way, said Lt. David Waltemeyer, a police spokesman. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with multiple gunshot wounds, Waltemeyer said. Police believe the shooting might have been sparked by a dispute the night before, he said. Names of the victims were not released.

Man found dead along waterfront

A man was found dead yesterday morning near his boat docked on the Canton waterfront, and police were awaiting an autopsy report. The man, whose name was not released, was reported missing by his son, who went to the piers off the 2600 block of Boston St. looking for him about 10:30 a.m., authorities said. Kevin Cartwright, a Fire Department spokesman, said the department's dive team was preparing to enter the water to begin searching when firefighters using a recovery tool retrieved the man's body in several feet of water. Police spokesman Troy Harris said the body displayed no signs of trauma. Homicide detectives were treating the incident as a suspicious death pending the results of the autopsy.
