The November full moon rises here today at 4:51 p.m., nine hours past precise fullness. It's the first full moon after the Harvest Moon, which makes it the Hunter's Moon, according to Guy Ottewell's Astronomical Calendar. The crops were in, leaving the fields cleared and illuminated for hunters in quest of fox, deer and other game foraging amid the stubble. It's also known as the Frosty Moon, for obvious reasons. And Indians spoke of the Beaver Moon, beneath which the critters shored up their lodges and dams for winter.
