Roch around the clock

The Kickoff

November 01, 2006|By ROCH KUBATKO

There are people in the Orioles' organization who think the team needs to add three relievers. Is that excessive?

James Hoey probably should get some innings at Triple-A Norfolk and join the Orioles later in the summer. But do you pencil in John Parrish, Kurt Birkins, Aaron Rakers, Chris Britton and Brian Burres? What about Sendy Rleal? Todd Williams?

The Orioles need a proven left-handed specialist. They'll need a right-handed setup man to replace LaTroy Hawkins. They're expected to go outside the organization.

J.C. Romero was targeted while pitching for the Twins, who wanted Melvin Mora in return. No deal. Now Romero is coming off a bad year. But didn't executive vice president Mike Flanagan say something a few months ago about going after some guys who need to rebound from a poor season?
