Tech awards to honor innovators

The Anne Arundel Tech Council will celebrate innovators and leaders in the local technology community at the annual Tech Awards at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Loews Annapolis Hotel, 126 West St.

The cost is $90 for members, $105 for nonmembers. Tables are $650.

Chipotle to open mall restaurant

Chipotle, a chain that serves burritos, tacos and salads, will open a restaurant at Annapolis Mall on Friday.

Chipotle will hold a fund-raiser for Annapolis High School from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. A $5 donation at the door will be rewarded with a gourmet burrito and a drink.

Proceeds will go to buy and upgrade computer equipment at the school.

BWI partnership to meet Nov. 9

The BWI Business Partnership will hold a "Signature Breakfast" at 7:45 a.m. Nov. 9 at the Four Points by Sheraton at BWI Airport, 7032 Elm Road.

Keynote speaker Lt. Gen. Charles Groom Jr., director of the Defense Information Systems Agency and commander of the Joint Task Force Global Network Operations, will discuss the Base Realignment and Closure process.

The breakfast meeting is free for members based on dues level, $20 otherwise; $50 for nonmembers. Reservations are required by Nov. 6.

Women's group to meet Nov. 8

The Maryland Capital Chapter of the American Business Women's Association will hold its next meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Sheraton Barcelo Hotel Annapolis, 173 Jennifer Road.

A Vendor Spotlight, showcasing local businesses and their products, will be the highlight of the evening.

The cost is $28 for members, $35 for guests. Registration is required by Thursday.

Job fair for veterans to be held Nov. 8

The Maryland Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation and the American Legion will sponsor a Veterans Job Fair at 10 a.m. Nov. 8 at Legion Post 60, 2 Main St., Laurel.

The fair will include employers and more than 3,000 open positions. Job seekers should take resumes and dress appropriately.

Real estate agency gives sales awards

W.F. Chesley Real Estate, Inc. announced its sales award winners for September.

Bart Johnson won Top Listings and Mark Ellington won Top Sales and Top Settlements.

Drag racer inducted into Hall of Fame

Carroll H. Hynson, Jr. of Annapolis was inducted into the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on drag racers, car owners, track owners and others involved in the sport.

Hynson has won over 200 trophies and awards, and became one of the first African-Americans to race and own a sponsored car.

He was one of 15 inductees at a ceremony in Henderson, N.C.

Monthly newsletter covers business

Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp. has launched Business Matters, a monthly electronic newsletter.

The newsletter will offer news and announcements about county businesses and links to resources and information.
