One of downtown Towson's newest shops is aParaDox, a youth-oriented clothing store just south of the Recher Theatre. It evolved from gimmickwear, which specializes in T-shirts, 100 percent cotton, made without sweatshop labor. Some of the shirts had local themes -- "Baltimore, Home of the Hoff," a reference to locally born David Hasselhoff -- or suggestive slogans, and sometimes both ("I Put the Sex in Essex").

Of course, the T-shirts are at the store, but aParaDox -- which tries to "support organizations that make small-run, unique styles to keep the socially conscious consumer looking super deluxe" -- has much more.

How about a 1940s-style Hollywood glamour dress from Stop Staring! or an outfit from Free People? Or a pair of earth-friendly Blackspot Sneakers, with 100 percent organic-hemp uppers and recycled soles?
