Awards

James F. Rosner, a Whiteford, Taylor & Preston partner who heads the law firm's pro bono program, received the 2006 Community Service Award from the Defense Research Institute.

PR News presented the Greater Baltimore Committee with its 2006 Platinum PR Award for Best Electronic Communications.

Defense contracts

Northrop Grumman Corp. announced that its Baltimore facility won an $18.9 million U.S. Air Force contract to provide spare parts for the B-1 bomber radar systems.

The Department of Homeland Security awarded Annapolis-based USGC Inc. a $644,000 contract to provide records management, imaging and related services to the U.S. Coast Guard National Maritime Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Jan Berlage, an attorney with Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll LLP, was inducted as a fellow of the Maryland Bar Foundation.

Opening

Merrill Lynch & Co. opened a new office in Ocean City at 11724 Ocean Gateway. An open house will be held Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
