Curley hands Delaware power 1st loss, 23-22

Kevin Franklin scored on a 12-yard run with four minutes left, and Ray Ridgeway added the go-ahead, two-point conversion as host Archbishop Curley held off Caravel Academy of Delaware, 23-22, yesterday..

The victory ended a 17-game winning streak by the defending state champion Buccaneers (6-1), ranked No. 2 in their home state.

Franklin had 145 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns to power the Friars (6-2).

Centennial 20, Reservoir 0 -- Senior quarterback Owen Dresser carried 16 times for 119 yards and threw touchdown passes to Riley Fritts and Justin Harris to lead the visiting Eagles (5-2). Centennial senior linebacker Mike Rossberg made 14 tackles against the Gators (4-3).

No. 1 Curley 2, John Carroll 1 -- Nick Athanasiou scored the game-winner with 20 minutes left as the host Friars (19-3) edged the Patriots (8-7-1). John Connelly had five saves for Curley, two fewer than John Carroll's Andrew Pipitone.

No. 12 Century 3, North Carroll 1 -- Seniors Dan Alderman (one goal, one assist) and Jeff Rogers (11 saves) led the Knights (8-2-1) to their second county championship in three years with a win over the visiting Panthers (9-2-0).
