The wristband was weighing him down.

There was just too much stuff on it - formations, protections, routes, motions, numbers - and that was on the outside. There were 101 plays for 18-year-old Thaddeus Lewis to remember in his debut as a Division I-A quarterback, and they all seemed to be colliding in his head like the helmets in front of him.

"I was saying some plays wrong, or calling in the wrong plays," Duke's quarterback said of his flustered start against Wake Forest on Sept. 9. "I had to get used to that. I was already kind of nervous. I had to settle down and regroup and read the right play out and the right formation."
