Parents' guide

October 20, 2006

Rating -- PG

What it's about -- A rebellious teen finds a wild mustang and bonds with a creature that shares her free spirit.

The Kid Attractor Factor -- Horses, Alison Lohman, Tim McGraw, more horses, cute boys.

Good lessons/bad lessons -- Wild things should be left wild, unless they're teenagers. A good "pet" can teach a wayward kid responsibility.

Violence -- An animal attack, some rough horse-taming antics.

Language -- Very clean.

Sex -- Girls are interested in boys, and vice versa.

Drugs -- Nope.

Parents advisory -- The best 13-and-under movie of the year, this one has values, heart and horses. What young girl could want more out of a movie?

The Prestige

Rating -- PG-13

What it's about -- Feuding magicians take their fight to the death in late 19th-century London.

The Kid Attractor Factor -- Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale.

Good lessons/bad lessons -- Safety first, even in magic tricks. And a grudge will eat you alive.

Violence -- Against people and animals, not terribly graphic.

Language -- Disney clean.

Sex -- Hinted at.

Drugs -- None.

Parents advisory -- A bit complicated and dark for the very youngest, but appropriate fare for 12-and-older.
