For Russia, with love

The lowdown -- Take a journey to Russia this weekend at the Russian Festival, held at the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church tomorrow through Sunday. The festival showcases traditional Russian cuisine, music, arts and crafts, dance ensembles and more. Saturday evening's performers are the Washington Balalaika Society Orchestra and the Lyman Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. Visitors can also tour the Byzantine-style church, create Russian Easter eggs and learn about orthodoxy.

Oyster season tribute

The lowdown -- The St. Mary's County Oyster Festival marks the beginning of oyster season with an all-day festival 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. For 40 years, St. Mary's County has paid tribute to the men and women who once made a living on the Chesapeake Bay. The festival includes food, contests and entertainment. Activities include the National Oyster Cook-Off, the National Oyster Shucking competition, and two stages of bluegrass, pop and jazz.

Maryland Race for the Cure

The lowdown -- Take your running shoes to M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday for the 14th annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's Race for the Cure. More than 20,000 people will take part in the race, which is sponsored by the Maryland affiliate of the Komen foundation. The goal is to raise money for local education, treatment, research and information about early detection. The day's activities include the Parade of Pink, a 5K run and walk, a one-mile family fun walk, and an awards ceremony.

If you go -- The activities will be held 6 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Saturday on the B and C lot of the M&T Bank Stadium, 1101 Russell St. All participants are welcome. Registration is $30-$40. For more information, call 410-433-RACE or go to komenmd.org.
