Stalled running game leaves Portis overheated

Redskins' star back is frustrated with direction of attack

October 17, 2006|By Don Markus | Don Markus,Sun Reporter

Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis had calmed down since he left FedEx Field on Sunday after his team's deflating 25-22 defeat to the Tennessee Titans. There were no expletives hurled yesterday, as Portis had unleashed to reporters on the field, but the frustration remained.

It was not just the fact that the Redskins had become Tennessee's first victim this season, but that Portis had carried only 14 times for 58 yards against what had been the league's worst rushing defense. As a team, the Redskins ran for 125 yards.
