Cancer benefit raises $325,000

October 16, 2006|By Arin Gencer

More than $325,000 was raised yesterday through the American Cancer Society's annual four-mile walk for breast cancer, held at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg YMCA at Stadium Place. In its fifth year in Baltimore, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer drew more than 3,700 participants - a mix of people from the Baltimore area and beyond, said Dawn Ward, a spokeswoman for the American Cancer Society, which holds the same event in other cities across the nation. The money collected this year represented a "tremendous jump" over the nearly $200,000 raised in 2005, Ward said. The proceeds support breast cancer research and ensure access to screening, treatment and other services.
