John Pagliaro returned an interception 19 yards for a touchdown, and rushed for 124 yards with a 71-yard touchdown as fourth-ranked Gilman won its third straight game and its 12th consecutive game against Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference competition by beating winless and host Calvert Hall, 26-7, yesterday.

Ben Eaton Jr. scored on a 21-yard run, and Makura Compton returned an interception 100 yards for another touchdown against the Cardinals (0-5, 0-3) as Gilman (3-2, 3-0) continued its quest for its eighth conference title under 10th-year coach Biff Poggi.

Gilman can clinch the league crown with wins over No. 1 Loyola (6-0, 1-0) and No. 8 McDonogh (4-2, 2-0), who face the Greyhounds on Oct. 28, and, Nov. 11, respectively. Gilman has not had a league loss since dropping its final four games of the 2003 season.

Towson 14, No. 11 Franklin 13 -- Jason White caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Luke Smith to put the host Generals (3-3) on top in the fourth quarter. White then intercepted a pass from Indians quarterback Josh Gibson to seal the upset over previously undefeated Franklin (5-1). Senior fullback Amine Alaoui had 138 yards on 20 carries, including a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
