Discussion series to focus on urban planning

October 15, 2006

General Growth Properties and Howard Community College will present "Voices of Vision," a series of talks and discussions with experts on effective urban planning and design, and its impact on quality of life.

Residents are invited to participate in open forums on topics that relate to the future of Columbia and Howard County.

Architect and planner Vernon D. Swaback will begin the series at 7 p.m. Thursday in the college's Smith Theatre, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia.

As Frank Lloyd Wright's youngest apprentice, Swaback spent more than two decades with the Wright organization before founding Swaback Partners, a firm of architects and planners. His latest book, Straight Talk About Sprawl, Smart Growth, Green Architecture & Sustainable Design, will be released at the end of the year.

General Growth Properties Inc. is developing planned communities in Maryland (including Columbia's Town Center), Texas and Nevada.
