An article yesterday about the sale of Mercantile Bankshares Corp. misstated the level of assets at which bank mergers were found to be most successful. A study by Haluk Unal, professor of finance at the University of Maryland Smith School of Business, found that the most successful mergers, in terms of return for shareholders and bondholders, were those that created a bank with more than $100 billion in assets.

An article in yesterday's Maryland section about a scheduled political forum in the Perry Hall area incorrectly listed the Democratic candidates for the House of Delegates representing the 7th district in Baltimore and Harford counties. They are: Linda W. Hart, Rebecca L. Nelson and Jack Sturgill.

The Sun regrets the errors.
