Reality Check

Contestants on The Amazing Race face numerous strange, complicated and difficult tasks in the course of the competition. But it's usually something unexpected that makes a bunch of teams come unglued simultaneously. On Sunday's episode, that task was rowing a boat during a challenge in Vietnam. The setup of the boat proved so alien to many of the contestants that -- in combination with exhaustion and a lot of wind -- many meltdowns were had (though it's worth noting that everyone eventually finished). But it's unpredictable. Eating fish eyes and laying bricks in a complicated pattern in earlier episodes led to snapping, but it was rowing that had several teams in tears.
