Person is struck, killed on highway

A person was struck and killed last night on Interstate 95 in Baltimore County south of the Caton Avenue exit, state police said. Authorities received phone calls at 9:30 p.m. from drivers saying that a body was in the highway. State police closed access from the Beltway onto northbound I-95 and diverted the northbound traffic on I-95 onto the Beltway, leading to traffic backups. Police said they were unable to identify the gender or race of the person. State police s urged witnesses to call 410-686-3101.

Maryland: Senate race

Cardin, Steele TV debate set for Oct. 25

Maryland's major candidates for the U.S. Senate - Democratic Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin and Republican Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele - have agreed to debate on a Washington television station Oct. 25. Steele and Cardin will meet at 2 p.m. at WJLA, an ABC affiliate in Arlington, Va. The hourlong debate will be broadcast at 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. on News Channel 8, a cable channel. It will be the first televised debate between the two candidates. They met Oct. 3 at the Baltimore Urban League, along with independent candidate Kevin Zeese, but that exchange wasn't aired.
