Career criminal gets 15-year gun sentence

October 07, 2006|By Matthew Dolan

A man designated as an armed career criminal received a 15-year prison sentence in federal court in Baltimore yesterday for possessing a gun.

U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett found that Panagoitis Skordalos, 27, of Baltimore was an armed career criminal based on three prior convictions for possession with intent to distribute cocaine in 1998 and 2000, and for accessory after the fact to murder in 1999.

Skordalos pleaded guilty to the gun possession charge July 17. At that hearing, he admitted that he had tried to get rid of a loaded pistol Oct. 14 when he was apprehended by police, court papers say.
