Two men were shot early yesterday - one of them fatally - during a party at a downtown nightclub, and another man was shot to death Sunday night in an unrelated incident in Northeast Baltimore, city police said.

Shortly before 1 a.m. yesterday, Central District officers responding to reported gunshots inside Gossip's, a club in the first block of S. Calvert St., found a large crowd of people outside and the wounded men inside on different floors of the building.

Officers detained several people as witnesses, but many other patrons fled, police said.

On the second floor, police found a man bleeding from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was expected to survive, police said.

On the unfinished third floor of the club, officers found the other wounded man. He was pronounced dead at the scene several minutes later by paramedics.

Names of the shooting victims were not released.

The other slaying occurred on a street near the Northwood Shopping Center in Northeast Baltimore.

The victim, Luther Bryant, 28, whose address was not available, was dropped off by friends about 9:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Havenwood Road near Loch Raven Boulevard, where he was to meet another man for an unknown reason, police said.

When the friends returned to the intersection several minutes later, they found Bryant lying on the pavement, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. He died shortly before 11 p.m. at Johns Hopkins Hospital, police said.

No arrests had been made in either slaying and motives were not known, police said.

The deaths brought the number of homicide victims in the city this year to 211, compared with 205 at the same time last year, police said.

Metro Crime Stoppers at 410-276-8888 is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for an arrest and indictment in either slaying.
