Flaws go deeper than QB's play

September 25, 2006|By GARY LAMBRECHT

The way Navy football coach Paul Johnson sees it, the Midshipmen enter most games with little margin for error. On Saturday, the Mids made more than their share of mistakes in a 24-23 overtime loss to Tulsa, and it goes deeper than senior quarterback Brian Hampton, who continues to struggle hitting open receivers, and made two such errors that might have cost Navy touchdowns.

If Navy (3-1) intends to rebound on the road against the tough, balanced Connecticut Huskies (2-1) on Saturday, the Mids also need to correct problems with their pass defense and kicking game.
