Catherine Helbing, 77, hospital clerk

Catherine Lillian Helbing, a retired hospital clerk, died of diabetes Tuesday at her daughter's home in Perry Hall. The Dundalk resident was 77.

Born Catherine Hagie in Highlandtown, Mrs. Helbing graduated from Patterson High School in the late 1940s. In 1948 she married John Helbing Jr., who died in 1981.

For two decades, Mrs. Helbing worked as an admitting clerk at Baltimore County General Hospital in Randallstown before retiring in 1999.

As a young woman, Mrs. Helbing joined Eastern Star and remained active in the fraternal organization for many years.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, vacationing at the beach and making sour beef and dumplings.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Grace Community Church, 11611 Belair Road, Kingsville.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Ravindranath of Perry Hall; three sons, Brian Helbing of Baltimore, David Helbing of Essex and John Helbing III of Salisbury; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
