New arts palaces are all over the map this season - Nashville, Tenn.; Costa Mesa, Calif.; Miami; Toronto. That building boom, in itself, provides encouragement about this young century and the prospects for culture. What goes into these facilities should provide even more.

In Toronto, the arrival of the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, after at least 30 years of effort, certainly makes a positive statement with the Canadian Opera Company's ambitious staging of Wagner's Ring that runs through Oct. 1.

WAGNER'S RING / / Canadian Opera Company -- Through Oct. 1 -- Four Seasons Centre, Toronto -- Limited tickets -- 1-800-250-4653 or coc.ca
